What to see on the Ile de la Cite in Paris? It is an island on the Seine River where it is easy to walk around. You will discover ones of the best tourist attractions, Notre Dame Cathedral, Point Zero, Palais de Justice, La Conciergerie and La Sainte Chapelle. 

Notre Dame Cathedral Ile de la Cite
Take the metro to the Cite station. And walk to the most beautiful cathedral. Main historical points of interests on the Parvis Notre Dame are the archaeological crypt, Point Zero and the statue of Charlemagne. Go inside the cathedral. Beautiful concerts are hold here. At the back of the building, discover the square Jean XIII.

Return on the Parvis and walk to the rue de Lutece, the nice building of the Palais de Justice will be just on the front of you, on the boulevard du Palais. In the same area there is the Conciergerie and the Sainte Chapelle. Before it was the place of the Royal Palace. All three can be visited.

The Conciergerie (palace and prison), the Sainte Chapelle church are ones of the best sights to visit in Paris. Many concerts, Vivaldi, the Four seasons are performed inside the magnificent Ste Chapelle Church.

Continue to walk west to the end of the island. You are not going to be disappointed. The place Dauphine is a beautiful and quiet square with some excellent restaurants. La Rose de France, place Dauphine serves French specialties like onion soup, snails and meurette eggs. You can sit outside. La Taverne Henri IV, place du Pont Neuf is a wine bar with a fantastic decor and excellent food. Le Caveau du Palais, Place Dauphine is a French restaurant that serves excellent food.

Simone Signoret and Yves Montand, French actors have lived on the 15 place Dauphine. At the end of the island, the square du vert Galant is  very pleasant with chestnuts, weeping willows and a Wallace fountain. Jacques de Molay who was the last grand master of the Knights Templar has been executed here. You can see his commemorative plaque.

Tips for visiting the Ile de la Cite

*Buy combined tickets, visit La Sainte chapelle and the Conciergerie.

*Come early in the morning for visiting inside  the Notre Dame Cathedral.

*Best photos of the Cathedral can be taken at the sunset.

Opening hours 

Cathedral Notre Dame is opened every day, 8 am to 6:45 pm ( 7:15 on Saturdays and Sundays).

La Sainte Chapelle: every day, 9:30 am to 6 pm from March 1 to October 31. Closed January 1, May 1, December 25. Opened on the evening until 9 pm every Wednesdays from May 15 to September 15.

La Conciergerie: 9:30 am to 6 pm. Closed on January 1, May 1, December 25.
