Baugé is a little town of the Loire. Located east of Angers. 280 km from Paris. The Château de Baugé is one of the nicest castles to visit in France. An Opera Festival is held every Summer, from July 24 to August 5, 2020.
A little bit of history: an important battle happened here in 1421, between the English Army and the Franco-scots. A major defeat for the English.
The Castle was built in the 15th century by Rene d'Anjou for his mother Yolande d'Aragon. A guided tour is available. Also a virtual tour with sound, light and image is opened in the attic. Don't miss the apothecary's shop, one of the most beautiful apothecaries in France.
The Chapelle de la Girouardiere where you can admire the sumptuous cross (known to be a fragment of the True Cross of Christ) is made with precious stones by Louis I d'Anjou. and became the the cross of Lorraine in the late 15th century.
The Opera Festival of Baugé is happening during the Summer between July and August. In the program, there are famous operas, Les Noces du Figaro, Madama Butterfly. You find also concerts during the festival.
