The Metro is the best way to visit Paris. It's reliable and cheap.

All the main attractions are concentrated in the center.

Paris is small but the suburbs are huge. We call the limit intramuros. There are over 300 Metro station in Paris.

Rush hours could be a little hard between 7:30am-9:30am and 6pm-8pm. Have you heard about the strikes greves in France? Sometimes you should wait and be patient. If you don't worry about returning home late at night The last metro is at 2am. Not always at the same time for each line.

If you are outside and you are looking to go in the Metro, first look for signs: METRO, M or METROPOLITAIN.

Metro station

There are 14 metro lines. The express train the RER is a suburb train going across too in Paris. Five lines of RER are called A, B,C, D and E. At different points Metro station and RER are connected.

Looking at your Paris Metro Subway Map you understand how it works you just need to know the number of the line and the direction (name at the end of the line).



Transit fares and passes

Tickets or passes can be bought at metro stations, tourist offices and tabacs (bar tabac)

Depending of how long you will stay in Paris and how many time will you use the Metro you can buy passes. There are 8 zones but if you are a tourist 1 and 2 zones will be enough. A regular ticket is 1.70 euros. You can also buy a bunch carnet of 10 for 12euros. So a good way to save. Children under 4 are free and 4 to 9 they pay half price.

There is a weekly and monthly pass. The weekly pass starts on Monday. A special pass for tourists called Navigo Decouverte. Navigo is just available for residents. For people travels many times during the day a good option will be the Mobilis 5.60 less than 1 day Paris visit 9 euros. 2 days 14.70, 3 days 20 and 5 days 28.90euros. For young people under 26 you could buy 1 day ticket jeune for 3.20 euros.

Free Paris Metro Subway Map and RER are available at every Metro station if they have a cashier. The public transport is run by the RATP (Regie Autonome des transports Communs) www.ratp.fr

Metro information: 54 quai de la Rapee 12e is open daily 9am to 5pm.
